I've completed 5 years service in State Health Services as MBBS, now want to pursue MBA

I have been in state health services since 2007 as MBBS general practitioner. I'm not interested in pursuing further postgraduation in medical science. Can I plan a good fruitful career path in management after MBA??? Wat will be best for me, Executive MBA or regular one?

Hi it is great that you want to do MBA after doing work as a MBBS practitioner and yes it is very couragious decision that you are looking for but the main thing is why do you want to do MBA after such a carrier in MBBS ? the reason i asked you this is whenever you join MBA course this question will be asked to you several times.

And yes you can do MBA at any point of time , do reply to my question

can you mention your age also as it matters a lot so as to know that which course would be better for you

I think executive MBA will be a great option for you. As it will help enhancing your previous knowledge and experience.

Thanx Prateek for ur reply. I'm interested in MBA coz I feel my creativity n decision making is getting wasted in a state govt job, where only routine work is required and there is limited scope for creative n ingenius input. Moreover, the chances of promotion are very limited and even after promotion, the service conditions don't change much. My colleagues who entered corporate sector are having a vastly superior quality of life even though they weren't able to crack medical entrance after 12th. So I feel my talent n creativity hasn't been rewarded commensurately. I'm 35 yr old and so I feel executive mba will be better for me. I want to know whether there is any demand in corporate sector for medical graduates who do mba ???

Hi
Welcome .. and yes this how a professional and a mature human being should answer i respect your decision and truly your spirit....as i told this question will be asked several times and hence this answer can take you through......

your thinking of taking up Executive MBA is also correct and yes i also think that your knowledge of MBBS and MBA are too different and you would require lot of Commerce and economic knowledge to cope up with rigour of MBA

You can do MBA full course also as it will give you time to understand the new concepts that are obviously different from your field

You can opt for both MBA and EMBA and yes there is demand for all grads but it again depends on which field of MBA you want to go for ....mention in which field of MBA you want your carrier ? and yes if you do not mind please mention your name

Regards

As you have completed the rigorous medical education and have experience, you should choose an industry which will make use of this expertise. Pharmaceutical companies, healthcare, continuing medical education etc where the expertise of medication education and management will be used.

So an MBA will gear you in learning the management techniques, business practices, etc. If you take up a regular 2 year course, in the first year you will learn all the basic management subjects and you will be introduced to marketing, finance, HR, production etc. In the second year you have to choose an elective. You should choose an elective which you will find it easy and also work in the area for a better part of the life. So it should complement your natural abilities.

If you are good in selling, then it will be marketing, if you are a people's person, then HR so on and so forth.

In executive management course, you will get a abriged version of the management course. This is suitable for person who has already worked in corporate world and has a fair understanding of business.

All the best.
