MFC started taking students through CAT only from last year, before that they conducted their own paper for admission and commerce students used to get preference in that. After admissions started through CAT and there was significant wightage for CAT %le, academic performance in school and graduation level, engineers also stand a good chance to get admission in MFC.
MFC is purely Finance oriented course and it is not comparable to PGDM in finance. It will make you adept in all the Finance concepts but there will not be as much exposure to other expects of a business environment as it will be in a PGDM course in any other good B school.
A good analogy can be, with MFC you can be CFO of a company, and with MBA you can be the CEO of a company :)

MFC is more technical compared to pure MBA in finance though there is not much difference job profile wise.
MBA finance students also cober other electives say in marketing, HR etc but MFC is just geared towards finance area. If you are very very high into finance and dont think other than finance, go for MFC otyherwise MBA finance will be good as you can have other options as well!!
