Well, i beilieve marketing is the process followed by companies in deciding the product. In this case, how the product looks, identify the "market", how it should be released, pricing, future development (?), and letting the company know how a product is faring in the market.

Sales is actual selling of the product. You know A to Z about the product, identify the "customers" and giving discounts... basically anything to woo the customer into buying it.

^^all of the above are my opinion* :)

Marketing and Sales both are very closely interconnected that basically are used to increase revenues.

Harikrishnan has rightly said. Marketing includes research about consumer needs, product development and advertisement. While Sales directly interacts with the people and persuade them to buy the product. Basically Marketing targets upon general people whereas Sales targets upon particular people.

Strategy of sales is to minimize the inventory and maximize the revenue.

Whereas for Marketing, in addition to above two, strategy is to get preferred position in the mind of consumer, increase brand and customer equity, maximize customer perceived value of products and constantly scan the environment for competitors and products.

comparing both doesnt mean anything as sales is just a part of marketing so if you choose sales you have to learn about marketing and if you choose marketing than obviously you have to learn sales as a internal part of marketing. ask again if any query remains.
