Because of bad situations in US and a question of double dip recession, companies are recruiting less specially in finance domain. Also drop in India's growth rate play a significant role in the same.

Even in IIMs,the last 50 odd students (say in a batch of 300-400) have to settle for profiles they might not be interested in. Some IIMs do force signing out for these students (as you might have already read in forums/ news) External agencies would be better positioned to cater to these students needs' than the placement committees. So I think IIM Indore is doing a good job that way. Another Tier-1 B-School, ISB also takes help from external agencies for its placements.
Looking from an economy perspective, hiring is going pretty good across all campuses. Definitely not the type of opportunities that existed in 2006-07 but barring finance, most sectors are doing good.
Since the 2004 boom in placements, there has been a reluctance from students to take up entrepreneurship. But the scenario is changing and lot of MBAs post 1 year experience are increasingly taking up entreprenuership across campuses. So you might want to look that as an option too.
