What is the difference between MBA and PGDBM ( post graduate diploma in business management)

which one is better as some univ are offering MBA while some other PGDM? Shall I go for MBA degree or diploma in Management?

MBA is degree while PGDBA is diploma. As per UGC rule only a University can award degree and hence all IIMs award diplomas while andhra univ give degree.

If you have a degree you can go for PhD while with PGDBM you can'tgo further. a degree can only be offered by a university

If your aim is to work in corporates then MBA or PGDBM/PGDM does not matter much.

Institutes like IIMs offer PGDBM courses as these are autonomous colleges and are not affliated to any university.

In this case, the college/institute's standing and ranking is more important than the degree per se. Corporates would value a PGDBM from IIM more than a MBA from a local university.

In case you want to pursue a PhD and choose a teaching career, then a masters degree becomes an essential to apply for a PhD degree. For that matter any post graduate degree is required to do a PhD.

IIMs offer their own PGP not PGDM, and who told that you can't go for PhD after PGP from IIM or PGDM from a recognised institute? Please clear your views before posting.
