Interesting question
Let us assume that you are almost like us - that is without any clue about what you like but quite clear you want to make lot of money without pain. Hence that shining news report in your newsper about those young IIM grads making cool 1 cr salary package is one of the main motivating factor ;)
Unfortunately media reports driven career choice remain to haunt us for a long time !!! hence probably you can assess if you are IIM type or not and if you are not the one who can crack say top 20 colleges i.e XLRI, IIM, Bajaj, NITIE etc etc then probably looking at GATE / M.Tech might not be bad idea and if you try to do MS from abroad it might be even better.
Cracking GATe or GRE is much easier than CAT and career options are much better than doing MBA from say babu banarsi das and with a little work you can get that coveted IIT stamp and can open lot of opportubities for yourself so probably M.Tech is hot if you dont have options like IIM / Top job at Campus
thanks but if I am passionate about tech/ engg and can also crack CAT easily then what will be better option?
In that case go for MS from some good US university as first option and if you have challenge in visa / scholarship then go for M.Tech from any of IITs

They are two different things. One is purely technical degree while the other is managerial/general degree.
Technical degree will be useful in careers like research and teaching.
Corporates prefer a basic technical degree and a professional degree in management. In companies, work involves managing resources like capital, people etc. It also involves in working with many different aspects like production, marketing, finance etc and this requires a overall understanding of processes, technology, people, resources and market. This is learnt in a management degree.
So your choice depends on the career you would like to pursue.
