Verb : Betide (third-person singular simple present betides, present participle betiding, simple past and past participle betid or betided)

Origin: Betide stems from the Old English word tide meaning “something that happened.” As in besot and belabor, the prefix be- turns the noun into a verb.

Uses: Woe betide the accident ruined their family, which was once considered to be the wealthiest family in the city.
